WV Chem Spill Interventions 1/30/14

Today People Demonstrated to the WV Governor and Legislature Their Desire for Real Clean Water Safeguards and Regulatory Enforcement.  The most entertainingly sick moment of the day was when Dustin White was ejected from the captial building for carrying in a jug of tap water from his fathers spigot in Boone County.  The officers claimed it was an "Unknown Substance".   And they're right, but that's what's coming out of people's taps.  Watch the video of this incident below.

Erin Brockovich Exposes WV's Eco Terrorists & Offers Advice on How To Protect Yourself

trail poison moves down stream - no such thing as YOUR WATER PROBLEMErin Brockovich and team came down to Charleston on Monday to help people protect themselves from the corporate eco terrorists that have endangered over 300k people the Charleston, WV and 8 surrounding counties.  The "spill" is not over as the chemical is currently making it's way down the Kanawha River to the Ohio River and on down the Mississip.   Cities getting their water from these rivers down stream are closing their intake valves and hoping it skates past them.   However no one really knows how long the MCHM (4-Methylcyclohexanemethanol) has been poisoning the drinking water of all these cities.

RAMPS: Mountain Mobilization Action & Rally

RAMPS pulled off the largest MTR direct action to date against the largest mountain top removal site in WV on Saturday.  The Hobet Surface Mine was shut down for about 3 hours through a series of coordinated diversions, lock downs, tree-sits and banner drops.   It has bee reported that this was the only mine in WV without beefed up security in anticipation of the publicly announced action.  It seems that they felt too big & scary to imagine that Tree Huggers would have the balls to walk onto their site.  The Police arrested about 25 people including atleast 3 cr

RAMPS Mountain Mobilization Prequel

Today, hundreds of us will march onto a strip mine in West Virginia and shut it down.  Concerned community members and activists are preparing to take nonviolent direct action to do what the politicians, the regulators and the courts have been unwilling to do: to defend the land and the people; to stop strip mining.

The West Virginia cultural museum hosted a panel on the importance of Blair Mountain to Union and Coal aficionados yesterday.  During the "official" panel there was hardly a mention of the current efforts of out of state coal mining companies to destroy this piece of history and the psychological & economic impact it could have as a tourist attraction.

Union Miners Support the March on Blair Mountain

A little bit of Union History, morals & ethics in regard to the Blair Mountain Historic Battle Field; the site of the largest Armed insurrection in the United States since the Civil War.  10,000 union miners engaged in armed conflict with coal company thugs and the US Military over the Unionization of the coal mines in 1921.

Rescind mining permits on Coal River Mountain ~ October 19, 2009

Dear Governor Manchin,

As residents of West Virginias Coal River Valley we write you to declare a state of emergency.  Coal River Mountain is our last mountain untouched by mountaintop removal and it is in imminent danger of blasting. This would not only threaten our communities, it would also destroy our chance to have permanent jobs and renewable energy through ridge-top wind power. You have the power to rescind these permits.
