Erin Brockovich and team came down to Charleston on Monday to help people protect themselves from the corporate eco terrorists that have endangered over 300k people the Charleston, WV and 8 surrounding counties. The "spill" is not over as the chemical is currently making it's way down the Kanawha River to the Ohio River and on down the Mississip. Cities getting their water from these rivers down stream are closing their intake valves and hoping it skates past them. However no one really knows how long the MCHM (4-Methylcyclohexanemethanol) has been poisoning the drinking water of all these cities.
Today I recieved 2 pleas for funds. 1 for a urban farming project that I've had a small hand in for several years and 1 for some anarchists busted in Mexico for alledgedly molotoving some shit.
Fix shit or fuck shit that is the question... on some levels it's obvious we need to both of these things, but fucking shit up is so "glamerous" that those actions usually steal all the thunder and resources from those doing the unglamerous work of building capitalist replacement infrastructure. So if you've got 2 duccats to rub together you might want to assess the fix shit/fuck shit ratio in your life and throw your privilege at one of these needs that has arisen in our community.
A clear plan for peaceful revolution. Unfortunatly is will require mass enlightenment, patience .... and probably several thousand peaceful revolutionaries getting their asses handed to them without retaliating with violence.
This was how I spent Thanksgiving 2005. It was truely an awesome experience.
The Rainbow Emergency Management Assembly gathered in Waveland Missahippie within days of the hurricane disaster, to feed people. They have receieved nothing but love and support from FEMA, Red Cross, numerous Church groups and Hancock County. It is said that before Katrina hippies would refer to Mississippi as MissAHippie because a hippie could easily go "missing" in Mississippi. Now Missahippie has a whole new meaning. The story of Waveland is that of people putting aside petty differences to do what's right and needed by our community of man.
This feabile attempt to tell an amazing tale of cross cultural volunteerism features: Vermin Supreme, Dirty Momma, Heather Bee, Pete Jones, Ben Cauldwell, Doc Stone, Organic Valley, the residents of Waveland Mississippi ... and Flower
Corporate lies focus on sowing doubt about things that would otherwise be a no brainer
... if there wasn't some expert telling you what to think.
From pharmaceuticals, tobacco, GMOs, alternative energy.. war ..
Doubt allows them the power to render you ineffective in making healthy decisions.
Doubt allows them the power to decide for you what's in the best interest of their bottom line.
Chances are, anything a corporation or governmnet tells you ... is a lie. Don't Doubt It.

The fate of tar sands development could shift to a potentially precedent-setting legal battle in Utah.
A coalition of conservation groups, including the Center for Biological Diversity, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and others, have filed a 253-page “request for agency action” urging the Utah Department of Air Quality to revoke its June 21 approval of a new oil refinery in Green River, Utah. The refinery is planned by the Calgary-based U.S. Tar Sands.
The Whippoorwill Festival celebrates our Appalachian heritage and traditions while helping prepare our minds and bodies for a future world of climate change and a decreased supply of fossil fuels. Together we are building a community and working toward creating a society that will be more resilient in the face of climate change and upcoming resource shortages.

Back in the 80's I gave my grandfather a solar powered hat with a fan on it that blows a wind on your head as long as the sun's out. I thought this would make his life working the farm in the hot sun more enjoyable. He never wore it beyond the mandatory initial try it on for everybody show. I always assumed it didn't really work because it was just a weird gimicky "future" thing. It worked. I guess it was too much technology for him. It still works, and now I'm wearing grandpa's hat.
